Microchipping

Barkers Veterinary Clinic is an accredited microchipping centre with the Australian Veterinary Association.  Microchipping is the best form of identifying lost or stolen pets.  The microchip (a small silicone chip the size of a grain of rice) is implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades, and can be easily located with a hand-held scanner by vet clinics, welfare organizations and local council rangers.   This procedure can be done in the consult room (just like a vaccination) or in surgery.  The number picked up by the scanner can then be traced back to the owner through a central Australian registry.

Barkers Veterinary Clinic recommends that all dogs and cats be microchipped.

Local councils require by law that all newly registered pets be microchipped after May 1, 2007.
