Equipment and Staff Training

Updating the clinic's equipment and training all the staff to the highest level has been one of my priorities since buying the clinic, and will always be an ongoing focus.

So far we have updated our in-house pathology equipment, anaesthetic machine and anaesthetic monitoring systems and our dental base. We now have blood test results in 20 minutes, with only a minimal amount of blood required. Our anaesthetic machine uses the most up-to-date and safe gaseous anaesthetic available for animals, and our monitoring equipment allows us to measure oxygen levels in the blood, exhaled carbon dioxide gas, blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate amongst other things. Your pet is in very safe hands when under anaesthetic with us.

Our new dental base makes cleaning and removing teeth a faster and more accurate process, with minimal damage to the enamel.

I am a great believer in continuing education for all the staff, including myself. I have just finished studying a post graduate course in Diagnostic Imaging (ultrasound and radiology), and the nurses continue to study and attend seminars.

We have just finished renovating the waiting room and consulting rooms (one for cats, one for dogs) which has made a tremendous improvement to our facilities, so please come in to have a look at the new style of Barkers Vet Clinic.

Hope to see you soon!

Complimentary Dental Consultations

Dental disease is one of the most underestimated disease processes in your pet. Infection in the mouth can result in a huge burden on the immune system if left unchecked, and bacteria can spread quickly from the mouth to vital organs, such as the kidneys and heart and cause far worse problems in the long term than bad breath.

The staff at Barkers Vet Clinic offer free dental checks to assess the health of your pet's gums and teeth, and advice on how to maintain a healthy mouth. Keeping your pet's teeth clean can be as simple as feeding a premium food, such as Eukanuba Dental Defence Diet®, Royal Canin Dental Defence® or Hills t/d®, and feeding raw bones or Greenies® (a tasty bone-shaped treat available for dogs and cats). If you have a fussy pet, speak to the team at Barkers Vet Clinic about the best way to maintain those pearly whites!

Eukanuba are offering a $5.00 discount voucher when you purchase a 1kg or larger bag of Eukanuba Dog or Cat food when your pet's teeth are checked by one of our staff members. Ring the clinic now to organise an appointment time for your free dental check.

It is never too early or too late to take care of your best friend's teeth!

Prescription Drugs

To save you time, when re-ordering repeat medications for your pet, ring the clinic first so the Team at Barkers can review your file, order your medication if necessary and prepare it for pick-up. By law, the vet on duty has to dispense all prescription medications — so if he/she is in consultations or surgery, your prescription may not be filled on the spot. A phone call will save you having to wait if the vet is busy. Sometimes a blood or urine sample may be required before more medication is dispensed.
